Review by Jay Snyder, Hellridemusic.com:
"One listen is the equivalent of being stuck on an acid trip in the desert after dark. Cacti stretch upwards to touch the night sky, a distant oasis blinks in and out of existence and the howl of coyotes echo endlessly in your ears…while that’s not an accurate description of their sound, and it is closer than one might
think. You dig?"
"To sum it all up, Melon is still the equivalent to a wild ride across the desert, although this time the vehicle is definitely not running on gas. Liquid LSD is more like it. I’ve loved everything they’ve done up to this point, but this is where its all been heading. Never Eat on an Empty Stomach is a glorious monument to eclectic sounds and should please stoner rockers who need a little bit of everything in their musical diet. Still reminds me of some sort of new age Zappa by way of Clutch with noise-rock, Floyd, Ashra and God knows what else tossed in just because they can and are capable. In lesser hands we could be dealing with a mess, but in the hands of Melon we’ve got perfection! Look for this one to drop at the end of April and go out and support ‘em on the live front. Not sure how they do it, but they pull this shit off and make it look easy! A killer release on all counts."
